My approach to counselling
Psychodynamic counselling looks beneath immediate symptoms to consider how earlier experiences, relationships and unconscious emotional patterns may influence the present. The work is collaborative. I will listen carefully, think with you and help you notice connections that may not previously have been clear.
Counselling is not about being told what to do. It offers a regular, confidential space in which difficult feelings can be expressed and understood at a pace that is manageable for you.
Who I work with
I work with adults of all genders. Counselling can be particularly important for men who have had few opportunities to speak openly about vulnerability, relationships or emotional distress, while my practice remains equally welcoming to women.
I also have a particular professional interest in working with military veterans, serving personnel, police officers and members of the emergency services. These roles can involve experiences and pressures that are not always easily understood outside those environments.
Doctoral research
I am completing the second year of a three-year Professional Doctorate in Psychodynamic Counselling at the University of Essex. My research involves military veterans and examines psychodynamic phenomena that manifest within the consulting room. The research page on this website is informational and is not an invitation to participate.
Locations and online counselling
Sessions are available in central Chelmsford, at The Turner Centre in Colchester, and online. Sessions last 50 minutes and cost £60.
