Popular with Military and Emergency Service clients, counselling outdoors brings a refreshing option to traditional therapy.

Walk-and-talk therapy combines the benefits of Psychodynamic therapy with the calming effects of movement in nature. Rather than sitting in a room, sessions take place outdoors, often in parks or quieter areas.

I run these sessions twice a week, Chelmsford on Wednesdays and Colchester on Sundays.

Walking side by side can make it easier to share thoughts, as the informal setting may feel less intense than face-to-face sessions. The act of walking can also help reduce stress, improve mood, and encourage a sense of progress.

This approach suits individuals who feel more comfortable in open spaces or find movement therapeutic. Confidentiality and professional boundaries are maintained throughout, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

What is Psychodynamic Therapy?

Psychodynamic therapy helps you explore and understand the deeper aspects of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Since unconscious processes often shape emotions and relationships, this therapy works to uncover hidden patterns that may affect your daily life. By taking part in this type of therapy, you can begin to understand yourself better, leading to greater insight and self-awareness.

How Does Psychodynamic Therapy Work?

Rather than just focusing on current symptoms, psychodynamic therapy looks at the root causes of emotional distress. This means exploring past experiences, relationships, and deep emotions that may still affect you today. Over time, this process can help you find relief from emotional struggles and create lasting change.

The Role of the Therapist

A key part of psychodynamic therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist. Your therapist provides a safe and confidential space where you can express your thoughts and feelings without judgment. As a result, therapy can help you:

  • Feel more emotionally strong and able to cope with challenges
  • Improve your self-esteem and confidence
  • Build healthier relationships with yourself and others

Who Can Benefit from Psychodynamic Therapy?

This therapy is especially helpful if you are struggling with:

  • Anxiety or stress that feels overwhelming
  • Depression or feeling low for a long time
  • Difficulties in relationships, including family, friends, or partners
  • A general sense of dissatisfaction or feeling stuck in life

By helping you understand yourself on a deeper level, psychodynamic therapy encourages personal growth and allows you to move forward with more clarity and confidence.
